Eks out of the two, but I normally just build out an environment with terraform, now tofu. I utilize ansible and some other tools to keep clusters up to date, clean and secure. We leverage services in the cloud in top of our security processes and tooling

I honestly think if a proper multi-node K8s cluster wasn't so damn hard to install, a lot more companies would host their private cloud. I almost believe that cloud providers are keeping the K8s setup so complicated on purpose.

Cloud is a scam in some cases. Especially in the hands of inefficient incompetent software enggs. Colocation will grow more than cloud.

Most programs running in the cloud are not native, Java, Python, PHP, Node... And in theory they do not suffer from portability problems. K8s I believe is Linux only...(Or 90%+ of cases). I don't believe wasm would have advantages for a cloud scenario. Maybe to distribute applications to users... Desktop and mobile. Maybe on embedded Linux (ARM, riscV, etc). Another use case my be create plugins in any language, some API Gateways like Kong allow that .

I have 20 years of experience in IT and I have worked with networking, Unix/Linux engineering, virtualisation and Middleware. For the last 8 years, I have been working with Cloud (AWS and Azure) and Information Security. I have worked with good old on prep infrastructure as well as evolving hybrid and multi cloud environments. One thing that I want to comment about this is that managing workloads on prep requires from an organization A LOT of time, money and effort to provide infrastructure. You need hardware, networking, storage, hypervisors, special licensing, OS administration, capacity planning, electricity, cooling, real estate. All of this offer no benefit to the business. This is the CAPEX/OPEX just before you start deploying applications. And it is the APPLICATION that offers the value to the business. With Cloud, you can start right away to build and deploy applications, or right away start using them in a SaaS model.

Very simple. I work for a major OEM and have these very conversations with my enterprise clients. 1. Cloud at the beginning was the silver bullet removing your CAPEX expenditure supposedly with an OPEX model and cost every month. 2. The Surprise comes when you get your monthly bills and you are charged heavily for data egress charges. Data is today a company's most valuable asset, and it's movement and protection is paramount to a company being successful which leads to 3. Security and compliance, companies have to be very careful with where they put their sensitive workloads and data. So they repatriate after experimenting. Again there are pros and cons to everything. Sometimes a hybrid mix is best, it all depends on the budget and business. Money makes the world go round

If you're a one man show, the cloud takes care of many of your IT needs. Simply put, hardware purchasing and silly things like power supplies going bad, bad hard drives, etc are no longer your issue to monitor or take care of. As a one man show, you can focus on developing your app / solution and work on sales. Though that being said, your solution must keep in mind how much or how little you want to take. For example, do I spin up a MariaDB database or do I use a prefab virtual machine from a cloud service provider. A prefab offers scale and additional performance features but less fine tooth control of other software on the machine that might be useful for database administration. Some of the prefab stuff might force the one man show into vendor lock in. I myself have moved from colocation of physical machined to a bare metal in the cloud service provider. At slightly more money I get all the hardware and bandwidth like before, but this time I no longer have to deal with hardware. If the hardware gets old or out dated, it's no longer my issue. More over all the other minor annoyances are now up to the cloud service provider to deal with.

@kodekloud I think as you mentioned with AI I think a lot of it has to do with cost. We can purchase data center level GPU for what it would cost us to run in AWS for equivalent of three or four months. We have too many people that would be leveraging it in organization that we couldn’t efficiently turn on and off, what we need to do in different lab environments what a lot of us have been doing now is out how much money it cost to run and when we need a surge of compute or there’s a new project, we would then spin up cloud solutions when we figure out exactly how much we need overtimethen we can make it determination if we keep it in cloud and run it more efficiently inhouse… never one or the other. The more recent increases in cost by many of the cloud vendors has also made the calculation much easier as it’s costing more to run in some cases in the cloud then if we buy the hardware and run it all year.
